Thumbs down the Branson Steak and Shakes

Used to really like both Steak and Shakes in Branson. They went through a rough time for awhile so we didn't go for a couple of years. Gave them a try again about 2 years ago and were pleased.

I think they are going through another rough patch. While we were in town for the weekend we went to the one by the now closed Celebration City. Had a coupon I had received in an email for a "Buy One Get One Free" banana shake and there were pictures of the shakes on the coupon: Tropical Banana, Ultimate Banana, Peanut Butter Banana, Chocolate Banana, and Strawberry Banana". I placed my order with the cashier for 1 Strawberry Banana and 1 Chocolate Banana and gave her the coupon. She said that I could only get PLAIN banana shakes. I showed her the pictures on the coupon and the picture of the same shakes on promotion on a card by the register. It took a discussion among 4 people to decide that I could use the coupon. I wanted the shakes to go. It took 20 minutes to get the 2 shakes. The restaurant was not busy -- maybe 6 tables had people. Got out to the truck and left. Both shakes turned out to be chocolate banana. DH lucked out since I'm allergic to chocolate.

Also this weekend we decided to use the other Steak and Shake coupon we had for a free double steakburger with fries. Since we had so much trouble at the western Steak and Shake, we decided to go to the one near downtown. Took 3 people to decide if I could use the coupon and had to tell all 3 people that I also wanted to order and pay for a 2nd meal. That took about 15 minutes to get the meals to go. Since I had ordered the chicken tenders meal, they asked if I wanted a sauce. I asked for honey mustard. Got back to the motel and took our food out of the sack. The cup of honey mustard sauce had a lid with a label on it that said use by May 3.

Don't think I'll be going back to either location in Branson anytime soon.

We've had lots of problems trying to use coupons at the Steak and Shake close to downtown. So much so that we quit trying to use them. We only go to Steak and Shake after a show, so it's always late, and I've never been impressed with the service....can't blame it on the servers, as I think they are usually understaffed. But you really had 'bad experience' ...... don't blame you for not returning!

Break it to him this way: If Steak and Shake is going to promote eClub, then the employees should be trained about the eClub and how to process coupons.

Guess I'll be giving Culver's more of my business.

We usually go to the west end S'nS. We had no problems last year when we went - good service and we got our food quickly. We had a bad experience at the O'Fallon, IL S'nS a few weeks ago and filed a formal complaint. We received two coupons for free shakes that we plan to use when we come to Branson. Hopefully the cashier will know what to do with them.

Possibly with a nine iron!
Maybe he should be spending more time minding the store, and less time playing golf!

Now you're talkin''.
What Steak and Shake used to be before the bean counters took over, and ruined It.

Freddy's would be tough competition for Steak and Shake if they had a location close to/or on 76 Strip!

You are absolutely correct! Great burgers and fries, forgettable location! Never remember about Freddy's being there until it's too late.
But then again, If it's regular hours for burgers we go to Billy Bob's, or Danna's. Later, after a show it's Uptown Cafe Local places with great food and service.

Steak & Shake seems to have a problem EVERYWHERE when it comes to shakes. They clearly need to devote more staff to making them. We were at the one on South Campbell in Springfield weekend before last. We both ordered shakes with our meals. I can only assume they figured we must have wanted them for desert because neither was delivered until we had finished our meals. They were not very busy -- it was about 3 PM. After the lunch rush and before the dinner rush so no excuse there.

NotJLB... have you ever worked as a Starter at a golf course? Steak & Shake maybe needs a Starter to keep the shake-maker moving.

On the way home to Nixa we passed the new Freddy's location on Campbell just south of the James River Freeway, which we had forgotten about. We were both like Oh well... we won't forget in the future.

Yes, you must have. Some of the best Q in Branson, and a close second to Billy Bob's for the best burger.
