Branson's Monkey Island on Lake Taneycomo

Does anyone know how "Monkey Island" on Lake Taneycomo got its name? The closest I can come is that it "is supposedly named after an actual monkey who lived there for a time. Apparently it escaped from either a show or was some show folks’ pet." Can anyone verify this or give additional info on how it really got its name?

That's what I heard... that it escaped from some show, or attraction, and they couldn't catch it.

Where's Monkey Island. Never heard of it. Only heard very credible reports that there is absolutely no fish anywhere near it. That it would be a total waste of time to even try ti fish near it. Even if you do there are rocks, boulders, stumps, old cars, giant metal spikes, and all sorts of hazards to boating all around it!!!
I have even heard that at times, especially during the Winter tournament weekends, there is a mean, vicious 20' Gator lurking around the area near the island
My best advice is just stay away from Monkey Island.
