leave you stranded pontoon rental

Just a quick warning we rented a pontoon last weekend from Table Rock Lake Pontoon Rentals, Kimberling City, MO We rented a boat for 23 hrs. 1 hr after we left the marina the boat quit running. I called a dozen times leaving countless messages on 3 different phone numbers and no one would answer. 3 hrs later we got this piece of junk back to the marina and into its moring. The next morning I called and finely got hold of someone. After several phone calls wanting my money back or adjust the rental I was told that their rental policy states that even if the boat breaks down you have to pay for the entire rental. I have contacted Mr.Jeff Cross and he doesn't even have the common courtesy to call me back. If I tore the boat up I would understand this policy but it was a mechanical issue I believe do to lack of maintance. When we pulled the swim ladder out the bolts were missing and it could not be used. This is my personal experience with this outfit we have spent the last 16 years having family reunions in the Branson-Kimberling City area and are never coming back.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. Is there a Better Business Bureau or something to report it to. Seems it might be a safety issue and should be reported to the lake's safety commission or whatever it's called.

If you paid with a credit card, contest the charges on your bill. You didn't get what you paid for, and they should have no trouble getting your money back.

You're not coming back to the area again or you're not going to use this merchant again? Sounds to me like you're saying that you won't return to the area because of one lousy merchant? That's rather harsh.

I agree with all advice given.

A: Report the matter to the Sherriff - for theft. They took your payment and didn't provide a service that you paid for.

B: Report them to the Coastguard. They are renting out defective marine equipment, which is putting safety at risk.

C: Listen to the advice already given. As the Osmonds sang "One Bad Apple Don't Spoil The Whole Bunch"

If your credit card dispute is not successful, it is a small claims court issue. That is in Galena, 39th Judicial District.

You, a visitor from elsewhere, suing an established local merchant/pillar of the community type person.

If you win, then you have to collect.

Or, if you don't want to go through all that, just find a convenient internet forum and state your case there.

Thanks for the advice I just don't want someone else to go through the same thing we did. This was also for my parents 50th anniversary so it really put a damper on things. Thanks

Not important to your situation, but we are near what you are talking about and see those rental boats all the time this time of year, several on a weekend day like today. In 13 years we have never seen one, or heard of one having problems.

Our boat was also from a rental fleet, and as such had rental numbers on it (RN). We did not know about that until someone pointed it out to us, suggesting that boats so identified have a stigma of being inexperienced boaters.

I got new numbers for ours.
