An historic mill in Ozark will soon be on the move.

Yes, the move is temporary.

Johnny Morris owns the mill off of McCraken Road and 4th Street. Bass Pro Shops announced Wednesday it will move the Ozark Mill 30 feet to the west. Expert House Movers is a St. Louis company with four decades of experience moving property.

Crews have spent the last few weeks raising the mill off its foundation along the Finley River. It appears now about five feet off the ground. The move is necessary to allow crews to rebuild its foundation in efforts to maintain the building’s structural integrity. The mill will be moved back to its historic location on the Finley River later this year once foundation work is completed, which could take several months. Once back in place, interior and exterior restoration of the mill will begin.

The working grain mill dates back to 1833.
