Why One Table Rock Dam Spillway is open

180328 Typically, when Table Rock gets over Conservation Pool, 915 at this time of year, the plan calls for four generators going full bore unless it gets over 920 at which point they will go to a combination of less than one spill way and generators to equal 20,000 cfs combined total release. Table Rock Lake is over its Conservation Pool right now at 916 and "one unit is offline; therefore, turbine releases are being augmented with spillway releases of 5,000 cfs for a total release of approximately 15,000 cfs." It is anticipated that the offline turbine will be repaired later today, be put back in operation, and the spillways closed.

Actually 5 gates partially open as per this post on OzarkAnglers upper Taneycomo forum. Pics of the five gates open a couple posts down.

Tony Wedele just called me and said there's 5 flood gates open at Table Rock Dam. TR's lake level is at 916.31 feet and rising about a tenth every hour. Beaver is rising about the same, may be a little faster.

This is the first time I've ever seen the Corps open gates AHEAD of rising water. I don't want to say unprecedented but it may be the cast, and a change in operating procedure. They don't usually open the gates unless TR hits 920 feet.

I've asked Tony to get a water temp and to look for any shad that should be coming over the top.

The number of spillways open is immaterial. What's impotent is the amount of water being released. At the time of the post it was 5,000 cfs. Got in a hurry with the title, of the thread, but the post is accurate. Title should of read, "Why Table Rock Dam Spillways Are Open." Thanks for pointing out my error.

Looks like the fourth unit was repaired, and reday to come on line yesterday. Started ramping up around Noon, and have been running 205 mwh with around 13,000 cfs release since 1:00PM yesrerday. But Table Rock is still rising, but very slowly.
Just talked to a friend returning from Florida. south of Memphis every creek and river is still floated like it was three weeks ago when I drove through. St there isn't room to move a lot of water through the system, and into the Mississippi. Just slow, and easy, and hope there is enough room to store what is coming in the future.
