Went to see Branson Idol last night. I have to say that I was impressed with the level of talent they had there. Doug Gabriel has done a great job putting this together!! Okay...I'll be honest...I was afraid of getting stuck with an array of William Hung and the other "also-rans" from American Idol. But these kids were good. Last night was won by Jay Stack from Sullivan, Missouri. (Don't ask me what he sang -- can't remember...Just remember he had a good voice, the right song to showcase his voice, great stage presence and was just the best of the 5). The Osmonds were the guest judges last night. It was actually Merrill and daughter Heather. After all of the contestants were finished, Doug sat down with Merrill and Heather and intereviewed them. They then sang their duet, "Mighty, Mighty Love". All-in-all, a very enjoyable way to spend a late night in Branson!

So, you liked Branson Idol, huh? I've been watching it a lot this season. I went last night because I saw that Jay Stack was going to be competing. He is amazing. I've known him since he used to compete in the talent shows in Sullivan, Missouri, and he won some radio contest on a St. Louis radio station. He is awesome. In fact, every competition that I have ever seen him in, he has won!! :) So, I was very proud of him last night. His song was called "You Look So Good In Love," and its a George Straight song.

Jay is really quite good -- and obviously the judges thought so as well! You know, just a couple of minutes ago I remembered what song he did...and quite well!

I can't wait to see him in the next round. I believe that he has the potential to win this whole thing. I actually auditioned for the show myself, but because of who I was working for at the time, and my association with certain Branson performers, I couldn't be in the competition. BUT I have seen the show numerous times, and saw one day of the Springfield auditions. Compared to a lot of them that I have seen, I believe that Jay is one of the best (and no, I'm not biased on my opinion because I know him!) Anyway, I can't wait until I go back...don't know when that will be since I am working so much between CofO and the Starlite! Maybe next time, I can meet you?!

BransonCutie, I had the same hesitation...would I want to sit through some mediocre performances? I was also surprised by just how good the contestants all were.
And the real bonus is having the Judges entertain. I thought that Doug Gabriel was a good interviewer. The night we were there I was very impressed.
