A new theater in Branson was supposed to be a restaurant, but now it will be both.

The Branson Planning & Zoning Commission on Tuesday approved a special-use permit to operate a theater in the Millennium Plaza, a 15,000-square-foot building located on 76 Country Boulevard, just west of Gretna Road.

According to architect Mark Welytok, the owner had to alter the initial use of the building.

"It was designed as a restaurant, but our initial tenant could not meet their obligation," Welytok told the commission. "The new tenant wants to place a platform on the second floor for entertainment purposes."

The commission unanimously approved the permit with little discussion.

According to owner Joe Aziza, he has an act lined up for the theater, but cannot yet say who it is.

"It will be something new, but it will fit in with Branson," Aziza said.

Here's the rest!!

He said he hopes to announce the act soon.

The building will seat just under 400 people on two floors. The show will take place on the top floor.

According to Aziza, the building wil. also feature three shops that will open soon.

The theater joins dozens of other theaters on Branson's "strip," which continues to grow. In March, the P&Z approved the construction of a 720-seat theater near 76's intersection with Fall Creek Road.

It is one of two theaters being constructed in that area. The other will seat 900.

Aren't there some empty theaters that need to be filled, or have they been already?

Where are the two new theater being built at 76 & Fall Creek Road? I can't recall where Fall Creek Road meets 76. What's there now? Near there?

Fall Creek Rd. comes out almost across the street from Dixie Stampede. There is an old motel there that I believe has been taken over by Ramada Inn.
Wasn't there a Theater already slated for that area, I am thinking maybe 50's At The Hop was going to be there but it seemed it never really got off the ground.

I think its great to see more theaters coming but they cant fill the seats now unless there big name stars. Lets hope some bigger names fill these theaters.

uh-oh... wouldn't want to sound too much like bi would we :p

don't think anyone is asking for a star equal to that of someone that can dress cats up in funny costumes that's just to much to hope for. now if he could juggle them while riding a unicycle and balancing flaming bowls of gravy... that might be something.

still it would be exciting to hear news that someone like an Andy Williams or Mickey Gilley was coming to Branson. these guys aren't getting any younger and they can't keep going on forever. just think Branson could use a little shot of exciting show news. Everyone thought it was great to hear about Ray Stevens.

I've often wondered how we get a STAR to relocate.......

I watched the Video channel on DISH.......most of those country/pop/rocknroll people, are terribly committed to NASHVILLE......guarded closely by their LABELS.

It takes an Old Independant, really to make a move, or to reallign their careers...or an old successful, who can afford to make this kind of a move,........

A STAR would have to be guaranteed a FULL HOUSE, each show, to make it in a new theater.......economically speaking, its cheaper to tour, and make CD's or record albums as we used to call them.

Its the Money.....and half empty or half full theaters, no matter how you look at it.....do not pay the electric bill.......so ...

Its not that Branson isnt a great place to live, or to perform.....its the money at the end of the day.

If tickets got higher priced, everyone would moan.

Do you think Rockaway Beach's Propsition 1, that we all vote on, on Aug 3rd, would bring more STARS..???..willing to take a chance on a new theater, and filling the seats..???...knowing the patrons (having this in their mind) could go later, and spend the later part of an evening, down the road, in a casino???

PLEASE PLEASE NO MORE MAGICIANS, COMEDIANS, or PET ACTS. We need SINGERS & DANCERS. Maybe I should shine up my old tap shoes. LOL :p

how are they going to get a star? short of kidnapping one, i'd say it comes down to showing support for the one's that are already there like Jim Stafford, Micky, Moe, Andy, Yakov.

Not all the stars continue to be stars into the later parts of their profession. Comes a time when the CD's don't sell as well or finding places to tour are harder or maybe they just want to slow down a little.

Ticket Price, maybe they go up maybe not, I won't complain about seeing Jim Stafford, Mickey, Ray Stevens for 26.00 to 30.00 thats pretty reasonable.

I agree.

I just didnt know what STAR MEANT.......everyone imho is a star in Branson...we love all the shows, some better than others....but they all put their heart into it.

I was thinking STAR.......number 1 on the record charts.......filled bleachers at the State Fairs.......WHAT MAKES A STAR A STAR?

We need STARS in our theaters.....WHAT IS A STAR?
