Is Branson consider a Southern town as opposed to an midwestern town in modern times?(Question for the long time locals.)I know that this area is (historically) part of the upland south.People whom grew up in the big cities of Missouri,ie; K.C. and St.Louis are mostly considered midwestern. What do the locals(south of I- 70 at least) consider themselves?

Branson combines both terms and calls itself Southwest Missouri.

In these politically correct times, I for one consider myself, No demand that I be referred to as " OZARK-American" and will no longer tollerate "Hillbilly".
Actually, I think we are geographically as well as psycologically in the border. We are of southern hospitality, Mid-western quaintness, a little Nor-eastern stuborness, and just a touch (very little) western ideology.
I think that makes me a Mutt.

Im sorta long time....but middle Missouri.
Husband is life time...and in his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, he is SOUTHERN.
He is a REBEL and WITH THE SOUTH when IT RISES AGAIN, good ol boy.
;)
We are about as far below 144, as one can get before falling off the Salem Plateau, on the East Edge of the Ozarks........in the Current River Area.........we are called South Central Missouri...and we are Southerners.
Now Im not sure if that is politically correct....but if you poll the boys down here, you will get a consenses of nods that point SOUTH.:D
Politcally speaking: Democrats in the area are Mid Western.
Republicans in the area are Southern.
And, Im born a Yankee, raised a Hippy, and lived most of my life as a Southern Hillbilly.......giving me inalienable rights ''everywhere'' :D

I know where is Branson is located in Missouri.
