My brother and I are giving my mom and dad a trip to Branson in November. They will be at Falls Village Nov. 22-26. Since this is so close to Thanksgiving, will they have any trouble getting tickets for the shows? We would like to have tickets in hand when they leave but I am not sure which ones to get. They are in their early sixtys. Any suggestions?

I think Thanksgiving is a really busy time, so you should probably get tickets ahead of time. I am in my early 60's, too, and I like most of the shows. Favorites are Country Tonite, Mickey Gilley, Mel Tillis, Osmonds, Acrobats of China, Bobby Vinton, Shoji. As I said, most of them. Love Lost in the Fifties, too.

Hi LisaT!
I suggest Andy Williams' Christmas show! I took my parents to see it a few years ago, and we all loved it!
I've posted this on the board before, but I'll repeat.....Watching Andy's Christmas show brought back a lot of memories, of watching his Christmas specials, on tv when I was younger!
But, you DO need to get tickets early! Today wouldn't be too soon! Andy's Christmas show always sells out!

I agree, that time of year I would advise having tickets arranged ahead of time!! My suggestions would be Andy Williams, Shoji, Dino, The Duttons and The Osmonds -- at least to start!!

I agree with all of you......BUY YOUR TICKETS NOW......I ordered tickets and got lucky at the Palace...for row 14 isle seats.....for Labor day...two weeks only...ahead of the show.
That was a lucky lucky happening......you need to call the theater at least 4 weeks in advance....but I will order my Christmas shows by the last week in Sept to get front row center....well I dont like front row center...I like row 7-9 center......
I agree too with Bobby, Mel, Sojhi, Andy, ......... we saw the Gatlins last year....and we were NOT DISAPPOINTED.....it was not the Christmas spectacular as some are.....half Christmas and half....their other music......WE LOVED IT...and we are close to that age.
We saw Country Tonight at Christmas...the Rockettes....ummmmm...well....the Preseleys....and I hear....EVERYONE SHOULD SEE JIM STAFFORD FOR THE HOLIDAYS....I cant believe I have not been in his theater for the holidays.....too many shows playing ONLY at night now....we cant fit them all in. News Years Eve in Branson is WONDERFUL...and I havent been there yet.....most of the LOCALS HERE...go for the few days around New Years....and have a ball.
Mickey is not a Holiday spectacular...so we will see him at the end of Sept.....along with the Oakridge Boys.....(I love that beat that the Oaks emit...hehe).......Im not strictly country....and hubby was country when country wasnt cool..........so....Im a Bobby...Andy Fan....oh saw Pat Boone when he was there...cool for an old guy....:))))....we love the Grand Ladies too....that is really a great show for the young elders....the songs really connect.
Did I say.....I CANT MAKE UP MY MIND......I like it all......now I have to see the shows that arent as fancy....but are Branson Entertainment......not Grand Ol Opry and American BAndstand popular....just Branson......I know I have been missing things....big entertainment.
I remember once sitting in a lounge at Lake Tahoe....young and impressionable I was.........but, I only wanted to see Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra....the lounge shows were just not so good cause they were NOBODIES.....we sat there waiting for the Dinner Show....and we were so taken with the piano player in the lounge...he was really good.....I went up and asked him to play a personal request......he agreed....then he said he would sing his song......BLUEBERRY HILL...where we all found our thrills...heheh......aw....Im so glad I really paid attention to FATS DOMINO. He was cool..........and he was POPULAR.
Well later I found out....that 'NOBODIES' didnt play in Harrahs Lounge...and He wasnt the opening act....HE WAS THE ACT....but, I hadnt matched his face to the guy who played on Ed Sullivan....and who was in the movies....! AINT THAT A SHAME....I have been embarrassed ever since.....what nerve I had...thinking he was the opener...when I went and asked for that request...if I had known who he was...I would have fainted.......hehehhe.
What did I know back then.....I was lucky to be there....heh:) With my folks......:)

Oh me...engle....hehe.....yeah old guy.....oh me.....guess Im an "LOL"(lil ol lady):)
Do you remember those white buck shoes he wore?.....he was so clean cut, the hair was perfect.....he didnt have a flaw....hehehe....I was probably just in HighSchool.......He was pretty HOT just before Elvis.......then they were HOT together.....how we danced at the City Rec......to Fats and Pat...and Elvis...oh meeeeeeee....brings back the memories....I'll say.
Wanna dance?
On a day like today
We pass the time away
Writing love letters in the sand
How you laughed when I cried
Each time I saw the tide
Take our love letters from the sand
You made a vow that you would ever be true
But somehow that vow meant nothing to you
Now my broken heart aches
With every wave that breaks
Over love letters in the sand
* Whistlin' * Now my broken heart aches
With every wave that breaks
Over love letters in the sand.

Oh yes--I remember the shoes and the fact that MY MOTHER APPROVED OF HIM!!! I also remember all the $1 45rpm records I had, which were all stolen from a storage bldg. during one of our moves. Makes me sick to this day.

Oh I remember the 45's.....geese.....I had stacks and stacks of them.......and, Im sorry bout yours...come on over....I have a bunch........
Many years ago I got an old Jukebox.....and put my 45s in it....and when its not too hot or too cold....I go up to the attic, and get out my Pendleton hip pleated skirt....and pin it on my jeans....it doesnt fit anymore....hehhe...and I danceeeee....and sit on an ol antique chair.....and singggggggg to my hearts content.....I may be al old bobby soxer.....but, IM SOOOOOO GOOD........hehehe:)))))))))) Get's expensive tho...I charge myself a dime a play........hehehe.....REALLY.....:D
Nothing like some good ol music.....the High School year books...and some memories of all to the tunes that were LIFE ITSELF back then.
**I am involved with an alumni group, and we are active all the time...not just with reunions....we are trying to renew the old school.......and, we have sooooooooomuch fun with all the music....we get together each summer to conduct our main business meeting of the year......in California......last March we gathered to just horse around.....at a Pizza Parlor......and the owners put music of the 50s in the *box*........and we jitterbugged and bopped and slow danced...as we called it then.
Some of our younger counterparts....just giggled at the old folks and their moves........;) :D

Yes, I go home to Oklahoma for a high school reunion every 2 years. Surprising how old almost everyone else looks! Have to have a "whole school" reunion, since it was too small for just a class reunion. Lots of fun and discovered several love Branson as much a I do.

I can't believe I forgot the Gatlins!!! I am definitely going to see their show this year!!
I would love to see Pat Boone again. Saw him a number of years ago. (I'll be nice and not rub it in that I am the same age as his kids!!) ;)

Ah.........those old 45's! Anyone heard Bobby Vinton sing the song he wrote "What Did You Do With Your Old 45's"? It's really neat. And in reply, I still have every one of them:) .
Hi Lisa T: Hope things are getting better for you. I'm sure your parents are going to love your "gift".
My choices would be Andy Williams; Bobby Vinton; Shoji; Osmonds. Gilley doesn't have a Christmas Show, but he is ALWAYS good! I'm probably forgetting someone, but these are all very good.
I would recommend that you make reservations as soon as possible. Some people reserve show tickets 1 yr. in advance for Christmas.
What a nice daughter you are!;) GOOD LUCK!
Hugs,
Marjorie

wow-you guys sure know how to confuse a person!!!! (smiles) How will I ever choose? Do you think we should let them pick or should we have it all together when we give them their reservations? (They do not know that we actually went through with this whole thing-they think we are ALL TALK NO ACTION!) Speak as parents-what would you want -to get to choose or be handed a bundle of tickets with a smile?

I would love both. Either way, I think they will have a good time. We went to Moe Bandy's Christmas show because someone gave us tickets for an Early Christmas present. But after we got there, we loved it! We even bought the video from our show and we don't usually do that. So I am sure they will enjoy whatever you choose.

Well Lisa........I will tell ya this....If you were my kid..I believe with what I read from you...I would trust your instincts in a NY minute....:)
And, how wonderful, not to have to make any decisions while in Branson.......I think being a robot, that is totally programed would be my idea of Heaven and then some......:))))))))
So, if you were my kid, Id say.....you plan it....take your 'older' friends advice.....eenie meenie mieni moe it......and fix me up a travel plan..........and I WOULD LOVE IT.
.........example:
"Truckinfarmer", says the Cheesecake....."where are we going in Branson, and what are we gonna see this trip?"
"We can do anything you would like sweetie, just point me in the direction you would like to go, and that's where we will go.", the Truckinfarmer replies.
"But, honey, you have so little time for recreation, I would love for you to choose", the Cheesecake shoots back.
"Oh no, its all up to you darlin", the Truckinfarmer responds.
"Well," the Cheesecake hesitatingly says, "I dont know what we should do, do you?"
"Anything that you want is alright with me", says the Truckinfarmer.
"But, that's how I feel", says the almost irrated Cheesecake.
"You Pick now, time is getting short", says the Truckinfarmer as he circles Branson for the third time.
And, so the circle goes, until the Cheesecake and the Truckinfarmer are mad at each other, and not even speaking, cause they cant make up their pea pickin minds, on what to do in Branson. Why????? Cause there is JUST SO MUCH TO CHOOSE FROM.......
PLEASE GIVE THEM A COMPLETE ITENERARY, AND KISS THEM GOODBYE......::)))))))))))))))));) :p ;)

What a wonderful gift!! I definately agree with everyone else. The sooner you get your tickets the better. I'd like to suggest the Radio City Rockettes as well! We took Branson Dad's 80 year old uncle, his wife and grandkids last year and they really enjoyed it!
I am also 60 and I would never consider not going to Andy Williams and also the Rockettes. Last year was my first year to see the Christmas shows and those two were outstanding. We also enjoyed the Osmonds. We will be there November 1 and we also plan on Bobby Vinton this year.

I am going to post in the other thread about my dad. But I think that I am going to have the whole trip typed out for them when we give them their gift. I think it is a "teacher thing" but lists and plans are so great!!! I don't want them to have to worry about anything this trip. I think I am even going to get gift certificates for my favorite resturants!!! I am getting excited for them already!!!!!
