Good food, not great help

Written by KCCutie

I had read several reviews on the board saying that Outback's staff left much to be desired, so I expected that when I went. My husband and I went for lunch. I ordered the Prime Rib sandwich and my husband ordered the Outback Steak Scramble, which had a sirloin steak on top of I believe fried eggs and a few other things. My Prime Rib was somewhat bland and left much to be desired. I was disappointed. My husband's sirloin steak however was awesome. After I tried a bite of it I wished I had ordered a steak. It had very good flavor.

The reviews that I've read about the service are correct though. Our waiter disappeared for long periods of time. I almost got up and searched out the soda fountain myself for a refill until the waiter finally showed up again. It wasn't like it was busy at the time we went either. We only saw maybe two other tables full. Good steaks, bad service.

Okay, but Not Great 2

I have to agree with Donsgal on this one. I had read so many good things about this restaurant and was somewhat disappointed. Not much of an atmosphere, nothing that really seemed very 'down-under' to me (or my daughter who visited Australia last year). I chose a chicken/pecan salad that was okay, would have been much better had it been thicker and not so soupy. My husband ordered a spicy sausage sandwich which wasn't spicy in the least - but he did say it was good. My daughters split a roast beef sandwich expecting thinly sliced 'french dip" type meat but instead got a large slab (a bit fatty at that). They said it was good as well, just different.

The Outback was just a ho-hum experience.

Ok, but not great.

Lots of people who think that his is part of the Outback franchise will be disappointed. This is a place with lots of potential, none of which is realized.

Their steaks are lack-luster and pretty mundane. I like the alligator tail appetizer but it is too pricey to justify spending that much except for special occasions.

The worst part about the place is that there is absolutely no atmosphere. You would think that a restaurant with an "Aussie" theme would be charming and interesting. Apparently, the people who run the place just don't get it. Instead of having waitstaff who at least "put on" a good Aussie accent ("g'day mates, what can I get for ye t'day"), they are usually a bunch of college student types who are more worried about getting back to their ipod than doing a good job serving. Even the hostess on the day I went was a gum-smacking 20something who was incapable of speaking a coherant sentance that you could hear or understand. Eye contact? forget it. She was strictly there for her 8 hours pay and that was it.

Needless to say, it wasn't worth going back to. Even for the alligator tail.
