Much more than I had imagined
Written by Suselit
With a name like "Island Fire", I expected some exciting Fire Dancing and this show delivered that and more.
One of the 15 Member Troupe is the World Champion Fire Knife Dancer. I think the audience was holding it's collective breath as the men from Samoa moved the fire swiftly and powerfully.
The authentic music from the Polynesian Islands ranged from Warrior Songs to Love Songs to Victory Songs for the Samoan Soccer Team. Not only does the troupe dance, they sing and play musical instruments. The rhythmic music sounded so good sung by those many voices. It was like living history.
I loved seeing the authentic costumes of the Islands. There were many costume changes to reflect the different islands of Samoa, Cook Islands, Hawaii, and others. The colorful costumes were so beautiful and you could tell why they had been originally designed to enhance the dance movements, especially the hip movements. How do they move their hips that fast?
The Samoan men and women were very engaging as they enteracted with the audience and explained the the meaning behind the dances. And there were some of the most charmingly funny audience participation that I have ever seen during a Branson Show! Luckily they offer a video of each day's show.
I don't want to spoil the show by telling too much, but after seeing Island Fire you will discover the Samoan way of preparing a coconut....amazing!
At one point, I turned to my husband and said, "I feel just like I have won a Challenge on Survivor and this is my reward." I didn't feel like I was in a "show" at The Dutton Theatre, I felt transported to the Islands, learning about their culture and traditions and I really, really enjoyed it.
I want to see Island Fire again....it was that good. I am so happy that Island Fire will be in Branson for the 2007 Season so I can go back and see it again.
