The Chiffons, Bobby Vee, Chris Montez

Next up to take the stage was the Chiffons. I admit this is one group that I was very excited about seeing. Their song "One Fine Day" is one of my favorites! The Chiffons was just one of the all girl groups that dominated the charts during the 50's. During their set the Chiffons paid tribute to other female groups from the era. The lead singer is the only original member of the group. The other two members were made up of the lead singer's daughter and niece. While "mom/aunt" sang lead, the other two provided the audience with the typical hand moves and gestures that we expect to see from girl groups of the day.

It was Bobby Vee's turn to take stage. Bobby is the star of the show and because of that his segment is a bit longer than the others were. Bobby treated us to such classics as "The Night has a Thousand Eyes", "Rubber Ball", and "Take Good Care of My Baby." A poignant moment in the show came when Bobby Vee via video talked about how he got his big break into music. When Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, The Big Bopper, and pilot were killed in a plane crash on their way to Minnesota for their next gig, ultimately it was Bobby Vee and his band that took the stage that night so the show could go on. This performance changed Bobby's life forever. During the song, "Rubber Ball", plastic beach balls were thrown out into the delighted audience. (Tidbit: If you are lucky enough to get one of these beach balls you will be taking home not only a memorable souvenir from the evening, but also the autograph of Bobby Vee.)

The only performer left to perform was Chris Montez and boy did he know how to entertain. When he opened his mouth a youthful almost childlike sound comes wafting out. To me it was totally unexpected and a very pleasant surprise. Chris performs songs such as "Lets Dance" and "Call Me". During "Lets Dance" he jumps off of the stage and runs out into the audience to dance with as many women as he can. During one of those "runs" he grabbed a lady's hand in the front row and much to his surprise he was pulled down into the woman's lap and rewarded with a big hug. This received some laughter from the crowd. At the end of the evening all of the entertainers reunite on stage for a jam session. This looked like so much fun! Here was a group of very talented people who are all really good friends getting to share the stage with each other.
